Back in October of last year, I ventured on what I thought was the start of a long medical career at a local hospital, to remain unnamed. I was excited to be getting out of the hospitality industry and ready for the next phase of my life. I left a job with benefits and decent pay (but not decent enough for what I was having to put up with) for a job with no benefits and still sub par pay. I was able to see past not having benefits and low pay for the possibility of having a good chance of getting a job once I graduated. Fast forward a few months and things have changed.
The entire hospital system is undergoing clinical transformation. Basically, the floors are only going to be worked by RNs and LPNs. No nursing assistants. No nurse techs. So, in the next few months, clinical transformation is hitting our floor and I will be out of a job. I won't be getting a pink slip, so no unemployment benefits for me. They're giving the impression that they are placing the people whose position has been eliminated, but that's a joke. You still have to apply for a job, so essentially you are placing yourself. They're not trying to help out in any way whatsoever. I've been emailing the woman who is supposed to be "placing" us and all she said is that I need to keep applying and when a unit director is interested in me, they'll call.
I can't wait until the last minute to find something. Unlike most of the other nurse techs that are in school, I don't live with mommy and daddy and I don't rely on their money to support me. I have to work, otherwise bill collectors will be harassing me or even worse, I'll be homeless. It's very touching that they're so concerned about us at work. I really have no motivation to go in other than riding the clock.
Recently I was told that since January I've called out 6 or 7 times and that I call out more than I work. How the hell do I call out more than I work when I work 2-3 shifts per week, every week. Since the start of this month I've already worked 6 shifts. I don't get your logic. It's just bullshit. Thank you for putting me under corrective action. It's just another reason why I don't give a shit about your hospital.
Just remember, you're not the only hospital out there and when this clinical transformation doesn't work, which it won't, you won't be able to find an RN, LPN, CNA or Nurse Tech around who hasn't forgotten how you burned us. Good luck. You'll need it.
Ouch? Whatever you do, DON'T work for West Jeff. They are bad on their employees.
ReplyDeleteI have a LOT of reading to catch up on, lol.
I've had horrible experiences at WJ as a patient, so it's not on my list of potential employers.
