Slim•Fast Diet...

Being the awesome cousin that I am, I've been doing the Slim•Fast diet with Carlyn. I had never considered going on this diet before, but when she asked I figured why not. I'm trying to lose weight anyway, so I didn't hesitate to say yes. Well, maybe I did hesitate.

When I think of the Slim•Fast diet, it brings to mind memories of my Granny and those nasty powdery shakes that you had to mix on your own. Two shakes and a sensible dinner was never appealing. Whose definition of a sensible dinner would we be using?

Luckily things have changed in the past 20 or so years and the shakes are in a can and the diet has changed. The new diet includes 2 shakes, 3 snacks, and a 500 calorie meal. This all sounded good to me. I can choose when I have my meal, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Everything sounded good and as long as I followed the plan I'd lose 1-2 pounds a week. After almost 2 weeks on this diet all I've managed to lose is 1 pound and my mind. This diet leaves a lot to be desired...like food. I'm always hungry and it's a miracle that I've even lost a pound considering I downed about 5 bottles of wine in 2 days by myself (I don't have a drinking problem. I have a nursing school problem).

The shakes are okay. The vanilla ones are too sweet and the strawberry one I had for breakfast yesterday tasted like a Strawberry PopTart. Not what I was expecting at 11 in the morning. By far chocolate has to be my favorite. I have a weakness for chocolate that Slim•Fast understands.

Who knows how long I'll last on this diet, but it'll probably be about as long as it takes me to consume all the shakes that I've bought. At any rate, I'm sticking to it for now. Maybe I'll start running again instead...

  1. I hate diets, you can tell by the size of my ass but I finally found one that has food I can tolerate, I'm never hungry and is actually working

  2. I am completely against Slim Fast, Jenny Craig, Atkins, or "the salad" diet. All of those things either deprive you which increases the chance that you'll abandon them or they don't tell you what you're doing wrong that's causing you to gain weight so if you DO lose weight, the minute you get off the diet you start gaining again. I am a HUGE advocate of Weight Watchers because you still eat like a normal person. You don't starve or deprive youserlf and in this city where eating is a normal part of our relationships, you don't have to miss out either. I will be enjoying Shrimp Fest at Red Lobster soon...and a Crawfish boil at Holy Cross, too. I EAT. I like it. Mm chocolate cake ;)
Oh also, I never paid to join WW. I paid for their eTools site ONLY and once I got the hang of it, I quit paying. Good luck mama, show off them legs!

  3. I looked at Weight Watchers but their portions are so small I'd still be hungry on that too. Gonna try the Special K diet. Cathy did it and she looks great now. So, crossing my fingers...
